Parking Brake Shoe: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Remove rear wheel and tire.
2. Remove the rear disc. Rear Disc





3. Position the hub access hole (2) to expose the front handbrake shoe retaining clip (3).
4. Remove the retaining clip assembly.
5. Move and reposition the forward shoe (4) to allow removal of the upper adjuster (5).
6. Position the hub access hole (2)to expose the rear handbrake shoe retaining clip. Remove the retaining clip assembly.
7. Displace the front and rear shoes from the handbrake cable link.
8. Displace and remove the shoe lower spring assembly from the brake backplate.
9. Unhook the upper and lower springs (6) from the shoes and place the shoes and springs to one side.
10. Carefully remove brake dust/dirt from the caliper and shoe area.


WARNING: Brake pad/lining dust can contain asbestos which if inhaled, can damage your health. Always use a vacuum brush to remove dry brake pad/lining dust. Never use an air line.

Installation
1. Clean the springs, retaining pins and adjuster. Lightly lubricate the adjuster using Brake shoe adjuster Copperslip Grease.
2. Position the shoes to the backplate. Ensure the forward shoe is correctly seated in the handbrake link.
3. Fit the lower return spring.
4. Align the rear shoe to the backplate.
5. Align the hub access hole to the rear shoe retaining clip position.
6. Install and fully seat the rear shoe retaining clip.
7. Install the rear shoe to the handbrake link and the upper return spring.
8. Pull both shoes outward to allow the adjuster to be fitted. Install and align the adjuster to the shoes.
9. Align the front shoe to the backplate. Align the hub access hole to the front shoe retaining clip position. Install and fully seat the front shoe retaining clip.
10. Install the brake disc.
11. Install the roadwheels, tighten to 88 to 102 Nm (65.1 to 75.5 ft lb).
