Coolant Reservoir: Service and Repair
REMOTE HEADERTANK
CAUTION: Do not remove the pressure cap at the remote header tank unless the engine is cold.
Open the bonnet and fit wing protection.
Release and remove the pressure cap.
Disconnect the catchment tank (1 Fig. 1) and radiator link pipe (2 Fig. 1) hoses.
Disconnect the coolant probe feed wires.
Slacken off the tank to water pump link pipe hose (3 Fig. 1) securing clips.
Remove the tank upper securing bolts (4 Fig. 1) Place a suitable container below the tank, lift and tilt the tank from its position on the wing, remove the outlet hose and drain into the container. Slacken off the coolant level probe securing collar and remove the probe and seal.
Fit the probe/collar assembly to the new tank, using a new seal.
Locate the outlet hose on to the tank and fit the tank to the wing.
Fit and tighten the securing bolts. Tighten the tank outlet hose securing clip.
Refit the catchment tank and radiator link pipe hoses.
Reconnect the coolant level probe feed wires. Top up the cooling system with the correct concentration of coolant solution.
Refit the pressure cap.
Run the engine until correct operating temperature is reached, i.e. the thermostat is open, set the heater controls to 85 and Defrost, check for leaks and stop the engine.
Carefully remove the pressure cap and check/top up the coolant.
Refit the pressure cap.
Remove wing protection and close the bonnet.
TORQUE FIGURES
Tank to wing valance bolts 11 - 13.5 Nm
Hose clips 2.5 - 3.5 Nm
