Valve Body: Service and Repair
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Place a suitable container under the transmission drain plug.
4. Remove the filler plug.
5. NOTE: If an integral problem is suspected, drain the fluid through a paper filter. A small amount of metal or friction particles may be found from normal wear. However, if excessive metal and friction particles are present, internal service will be required.
Remove the drain plug and drain the transmission fluid.
Remove and discard the sealing washer.
6. Detach the oxygen sensor connector block.
Disconnect the oxygen sensor electrical connectors.
Detach the oxygen sensor connector block.
7. Disconnect the Transmission Range (TR) sensor electrical connector. Detach the protective cover.
8. Remove the oil pan.
Remove the oil pan retaining bolts.
Remove and discard the gasket.
9. Remove and discard the transmission fluid filter. Discard the 'O' ring seals.
10. Disconnect the transmission body electrical connector.
Loosen the retaining nut.
11. Remove the pressure switch.
Disconnect the pressure switch electrical connector.
Remove the pressure switch.
Remove the retaining screws.
12. Remove the reverse servo.
Remove the retaining screws.
13. Remove the solenoid body.
14. Remove the valve body cover plate and gasket.
15. Remove the manual control valve detent spring.
16. Remove the main control body and separator plate assembly.
17. NOTE: The main control spring will fall out of the case assembly.
Remove the main control spring.
Installation
1. NOTE: The main control spring will fall out of the case assembly.
Install the main control spring.
2. Install the special tools into the transmission case.
3. Install the main control body and separator plate assembly.
Install the remaining bolts.
4. Remove the Valve Body Guide Pins.
5. Install the remaining bolts.
6. Install the manual control valve detent spring.
7. Install the valve body cover plate and gasket.
8. Install the solenoid body.
9. Install the reverse servo.
Install the retaining screws.
10. Install the pressure switch.
Connect the pressure switch electrical connector.
11. Connect the transmission body electrical connector.
Tighten the retaining nut.
12. Clean and inspect the transmission fluid pan and magnet.
13. CAUTION: Lubricate the fluid filter 'O' ring seals with MERCON TM V Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-5-QM or equivalent meeting Jaguar specification or the seals can be damaged.
Install a new transmission fluid filter.
Install new 'O' ring seals.
14. Install the oil pan magnet in the transmission fluid pan.
15. Install the transmission fluid oil pan.
Install a new gasket.
16. Connect the Transmission Range (TR) sensor electrical connector. Detach the protective cover.
17. Attach the oxygen sensor connector block.
Attach the oxygen sensor connector block.
Connect the oxygen sensor electrical connectors.
18. Install the transmission drain plug.
Install a new sealing washer.
19. Remove the center drain plug.
20. Fill the transmission until the fluid flows from the center drain plug. Use MERCON V Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-5-QM or equivalent meeting Jaguar specification.
21. Install the center drain plug.
22. Install the filler plug.
23. Lower the vehicle.
24. NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal driving symptoms can occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy.
Connect the battery ground cable.
