Axle Shaft Assembly: Service and Repair



Removal
1. Loosen the wheel nuts.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the wheel.





4. Remove the axle shaft hub nut.





5. Detach the brake caliper.





6. Unclip the ABS sensor harness.





7. Detach the ABS sensor.





8. Detach the outer tie rod.





9. Detach the lower arm from the hub assembly.
10. Remove the brake disc.





11. Detach the hub assembly from the driveshaft.





12. Using a suitable pry tool, detach the axle shaft from the differential housing.





13. CAUTION: Do not damage the differential seal.

Remove the axle shaft from the differential housing.
Install the special tool.

Installation





1. Install a new axle shaft circlip.





2. NOTE: Do not fully engage the axle shaft into the differential housing.

Install the axle shaft.
3. Remove the special tool.





4. Fully engage the axle shaft into the differential housing.





5. Attach the hub assembly to the driveshaft.
6. Install the brake disc.





7. Install the lower arm to the hub assembly.





8. Install the outer tie rod.





9. Install the ABS sensor.
10. Attach the ABS sensor harness.





11. Install the brake caliper.





12. Install the axle shaft hub nut.
13. Install the wheel.
14. Lower the vehicle.





15. Tighten the wheel nuts.
