DETAIL
When opening side doors via the exterior release handle it may be perceived that release effort is stiff to operate in normal use.
To overcome any concerns in this area a spray lubrication may be used, as detailed below.
ACTION REQUIRED
Upon customer complaint of stiff door handle operation, follow the procedure below.
PARTS INFORMATION
Teflon based lubricant - locally sourced.
PROCEDURE
Front Door Handles:
1. Release the door handle by removing the screw located adjacent to the door latch.
2. Carefully slide the exterior handle forward to release it from the door panel, noting that the lock linkage will still be attached to the rear of the handle. Care must be taken not to pull the door handle out of the door with the operating links still attached.
3. Liberally coat the exposed mechanism (back of the handle) with a Teflon based lubricant, allow to dry and refit the handle to the door. Retorque handle attachment screw to 4.5 - 5.0 lbf.ft (6-7 Nm).
Care point:
Do not allow the lubricant spray to coat the exterior of the door handle.
Rear Door Handles:
As per front door handles with the following additional instructions:
When refitting rear door handles remove grommet from access hole (see diagram), above the door latch aperture.
Use a long screw driver or something similar, inserted into the access hole, to push down the latch lever (this is visible inside).
Refit handle as normal, remove screwdriver and refit grommet.
Retorque handle fixing screw to 4.5 - 5 lbf.ft (6-7 Nm).
Care point:
Do not allow lubricant spray to coat the exterior door handle.
