Inspection
1. Check the block face for any deep scratches that can be felt with the tip of a fingernail.2. Remove any burrs that project above the block flange with a file.
3. Fill any deep scratches with sealant during assembly.
4. Carefully inspect the oil pan flange for any evidence of damage or distortion. Use a good straightedge to check the condition of the flange.
5. Place oil pan flange side down on a flat surface.
6. Measure distortion along the length with feeler gauges.
7. If the oil pan flange is found to be distorted more than 2.5 mm (0.100 in.), replace the oil pan.
