DETAIL

Please remove issue 1 6O/05/95/US and replace with issue 2. The SRO for re-calibration had previously been omitted.

It is possible for early front height sensors on the Range Rover 4.0 SE's to experience water ingress problems. This condition can result in the following fault codes being set:

1. Front height sensor out of range (left or right)

2. Front corner valve stuck closed (left or right)

The condition may also cause repeated levelling changes to maintain a given ride state without flagging a fault code.

A revised height sensor was introduced at VIN 306631. This sensor is easily identified by having a "glossy" wire lead (old condition sensors have a matt finish). Also on the rear of each sensor there is a unique date code. The production change was made at date code 34994, (the sensor being manufactured during the 349 day of 1994). Any sensors with a code after this will be to the revised design level.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of an EAS fault that shows front height sensor out of range or front corner valve stuck closed, follow the procedure below.

PARTS INFORMATION

ANR 2494 Height sensor

PROCEDURE:

Refer to the workshop manual section 60 page 12.

1) Using Test Book, record and clear any EAS fault codes that are present. Check each sensor to ensure there is no damage to the linkage.

2) Select the Dynamic Tests icon then the Heights and Valves icon. Monitor the actual height output of each sensor, paying particular attention to those that flagged a fault. With the vehicle stationary, every sensor's output should be stationary and within the range defined below.

3) If any sensor's output fails the above, remove it from the vehicle and inspect it for moisture ingress. This can be done by shaking the sensor close to your ear and listening for a sloshing sound. Replace any sensor found to have water in it.

Ride state Front Sensor Rear Sensor
Range (bits) Range (bits)

High 120-180 105-150

Standard 95 - 150 85 - 130

Low 75-140 75-120

Access 50-110 50-100

IMPORTANT:
On Range Rover 4.0 SE, you must turn the ignition off as instructed after performing a calibration. Failure to do so will not allow TestBook to clear the 'Corrupt Sensor Data' fault code. If this happens, the calibration procedure must be repeated and the ignition must be turned off when instructed.
