DETAIL

When moving from drive to reverse or reverse to drive, a clicking noise may be heard from the rear axle. The noise can be related to the half shaft spline/hub flange being undersize.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint of a clicking noise from the rear axle follow the procedure below.

PARTS INFORMATION

FTC 3498 - Left hand half shaft assembly (shaft and ABS exciter ring).

FTC 3499 - Right hand half shaft assembly (shaft and ABS exciter ring).

CDU 1534L - Stake nut - 2 required.

FTC 1374 - ABS sensor bush - 2 required.

PROCEDURE

Ensure that all rear suspension nuts and bolts are correctly torqued to ensure that these are not the source of the clicking noise. If not continue with this procedure.

Refer to workshop manual section 64 Rear Suspension, Drive Shaft and Hub Assembly.

Remove half shaft from axle and inspect for spline wear. If worn/damaged replace axle shaft.

Axle shaft should be replaced as a complete assembly (the ABS exciter ring is already fitted onto the new axle shaft). Always use new ABS sensor bushes during re-assembly.

The stake nut must be tightened to 250 lbf. ft (338 Nm).
