Water Ingress at Rear of Vehicle

SITUATION:

PRODUCTION SEALING INCOMPLETE

A sealing operation between the roof and the rear header outer joint may have been inadvertently omitted during production. The lack of sealant in the joint can permit water ingress.

RESOLUTION:

CAULK BODY SEAM

Where a complaint of water ingress is confirmed and the cause is determined to be insufficient sealant in the body seam, follow the rectification procedure in this TIB to apply sealant between the roof and rear header outer joint.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

CAULK BODY SEAM

1. Open the tail door.

2. Release 17 clips securing the tail door opening secondary seal to the body.

3. Remove the seal.





4. Clean between the roof and the rear header outer joint (Figure 1).

5. Apply a continuous bead of sealant between the roof and the rear header outer joint (Inset in Figure 1).

6. Wipe off any excess sealant.

7. Fit and secure the tail door opening secondary seal to the body.

8. Close the tail door.
