Remove Intake Manifold

REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD (VEHICLES WITH SAI)

1. Remove the battery cover.

2. Disconnect the battery ground lead.

3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the mass air-flow (MAF) sensor.

4. Release the clip on the intake hose and release the wiring harness. (Figure 1)

5. Release and disconnect the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) hose. (Figure 1)

6. Loosen the clip securing the air intake hose to the throttle body. (Figure 1)

7. Release the two clips securing the MAF sensor. (Figure 1)

8. Release and remove the air intake hose.

9. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the air valve.

10. Loosen the clip securing the air valve hose to the air valve (Figure 2)

11. Remove the two nuts securing the air manifold support bracket to the upper intake manifold. (Figure 2)

12. Disconnect the two air manifold unions from the adapters in cylinder head. (Figure 2)

13. Remove the left-hand air manifold.

14. Position a container to collect any coolant spillage.

15. Remove the bolts securing the coolant inlet tube to the intake manifold.

16. Remove the bolt securing the coolant outlet tube to the cylinder block. (Figure 3)

17. Release the coolant inlet tube from the intake manifold and discard the O-ring.

18. Disconnect the purge control valve hose from the intake manifold.

19. Release the purge valve from the retaining clips and the air control valve from the bracket and position aside.

20. Disconnect the connector from IACV. (Figure 4)

21. Release the clip and disconnect the breather hose from the throttle housing. (Figure 4)

22. Disconnect the connector from throttle position sensor. (Figure 4)

23. Release the clips and disconnect the two coolant hoses from the throttle housing.

24. Loosen the outer cable locknuts and the release throttle and cruise control cables from the bracket. (Figure 5)

25. Release the throttle and cruise control cables from the clips and throttle cams and position aside.

26. Depress the plastic collar and disconnect the brake servo hose from the intake manifold. (Figure 6)

27. Release the clip and disconnect the breather hose from the manifold. (Figure 6)

28. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the manifold. (Figure 6)

29. Release the engine harness from retaining clips on the bulkhead and position the harness aside. (Figure 6)

30. Remove the two bolts securing the air pipe and coil mounting bracket to the manifold. (Figure 6)

31. Loosen the two lower bolts securing the coil bracket sufficiently to allow the bracket to clear the manifold. (Figure 6)

32. Release the spark plug leads from upper manifold clips. (Figure 7) clips.

33. Loosen the clip and disconnect the air hose from the air valve. (Figure 8)

34. Remove the two nuts securing the right-hand air manifold support bracket to the upper intake manifold. (Figure 8)

35. Release and disconnect the IACV hose. (Figure 9)

36. Remove the six bolts securing the upper manifold and remove the manifold. (Figure 9)

37. Remove the upper manifold gasket.
