Leaking Vacuum Port Cap

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

Range Rover (LP) All 1999
Discovery Series II (LT) All 1999 and 2000 Non-LEV
(Up to engine number 56D 29518A)

SITUATION:

ROUGH RUNNING SYMPTOMS AND POSSIBLE MIL ILLUMINATION

The customer may experience rough running and possibly a MIL light illumination. Upon investigation of the MIL light, the P-codes will indicate a lean mixture.

RESOLUTION:

INSPECT AND REPLACE PLASTIC CAP

The plastic cap covering the intake plenum vacuum port may deteriorate and leak. Inspect to verify that a split cap is the cause of the problem and replace the cap with the new part.

WARRANTY CLAIMS:

30.25.89/26 Time 0.20 hrs.
Inspect for missing or damaged cap and install vacuum new cap

30.25.89/27 Time 0.45 hrs.
Confirm lean mixture using TestBook, clear codes and install new vacuum cap

REPAIR PROCEDURE

INSPECT AND INSTALL NEW PLUG

1. If a MIL is illuminated, connect TestBook and investigate the cause of the problem.





2. If vacuum leak is suspected inspect plastic vacuum port cap (Figure 1 Position 1) for cracks or crazing.

3. Replace a damaged or missing vacuum cap with the new style cap (LKD000020).

4. Clear fault codes and verify that symptoms have been corrected.
