Rear Center Seat Belt Escutcheon

SITUATION:

REAR CENTER SEAT BELT JAMS

If allowed to return too quickly, the rear center seat belt "stop button" can pass through the opening of the escutcheon. Should the seat then be folded forward it is possible that the belt will jam requiring disassembly of the seat to release it from the folded position.

RESOLUTION:

NEW SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY

A new seat belt escutcheon has been introduced into production. The new part reduces the tendency of the seat belt "stop button" from passing through the escutcheon opening upon retraction. Repair of a locking seat belt complaint as described above should include replacement of the escutcheon with the new specification component. The new escutcheon is stronger to prevent the stop from passing through. The retraction force of the belt in current production has also been reduced.

REPAIR PROCEDURE





1. Release the seat belt escutcheon from the center belt cover. (Figure 1)

2. Slide escutcheon off of the belt through the slot

3. Install new escutcheon onto the belt

4. Insert the escutcheon into the center belt cover.
