NOTE:
The following Work Procedure Flow Chart will assist the technician in determining which repair procedure is required to be performed.
Work Procedure # 1 - CREAK NOISE FROM LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT
1. Raise the vehicle on a lift so that it is at an appropriate level for the technician.
2. Remove the rear wheel.
3. Scrape the undercoat of the wheel house from the area surrounding the service hole cover (approximately 3" diameter). Remove the service hole cover.
4. Using a punch through the service hole, dent the wheel house gusset along with the front part of the service hole as shown in the illustration. The service hole should be punched hard enough so that it strongly contacts the bulkhead.
5. Install the service hole cover to the service hole.
6. Coat the affected area with sealant.
7. Reinstall the rear wheel.
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf cm; 76 ft lbf).
Work Procedure # 2 - CREAK NOISE FROM BELOW REAR SEAT
1. Remove the Rear Seat Cushion Assembly. Refer to the 2001 MY LS 430 Repair Manual Volume 2, pages BO-168 through BO-185, for additional information.
2. Using a scraper, scrape the sealer at the area indicated by the diagonal lines shown in the illustration.
3. Dent the area from 5.0 mm (0.196 in.) to 25 mm (0.984 in.) to the front of the center floor press line using a ball-peen hammer.
4. Reapply sealer to the affected area.
