Parking Brake Cable No. 3









PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY NO.3
REPLACEMENT

HINT:
^ Use the same procedures for the parking brake cable assembly No.2 and No.3.
^ The procedures listed are for the parking brake cable assembly No.3.

1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL





2. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH
a. Remove the 2 bolts and separate the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH.

HINT:
^ Do not disconnect the flexible hose from the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH.
^ Do not twist or bend the rear brake caliper assembly LH.

b. Hang the rear brake caliper assembly LH with a piece of wire.





3. REMOVE REAR DISC
a. Place matchmarks on the disc and rear axle hub.
b. Remove the disc.

HINT: If the disc cannot be removed easily, turn the shoe adjuster until the wheel turns smoothly.





4. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING
a. Using SST, remove the brake shoe return tension spring.

5. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH NO.1
a. Using SST, remove the cap, shoe hold-down spring and pin.

b. Disconnect the tension spring from the parking brake shoe assembly LH No. 1.
c. Remove the parking brake shoe assembly LH No. 1 and shoe adjuster.





6. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH NO.2
a. Remove the tension spring from the lower shoe.
b. Using SST, remove the cap, shoe hold-down spring and pin.

c. Remove the parking brake shoe assembly LH No.2.





7. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
a. Disconnect the parking brake cable assembly No.3 from the parking brake shoe lever.
8. REMOVE OXYGEN SENSOR
9. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
10. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1
11. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY NO.3





a. Remove the 2 nuts and parking brake cable assembly No.3 from the rear axle carrier.
b. Remove the 3 bolts and separate the parking brake cable assembly No.3.
c. Remove the parking brake cable No.3 from the parking brake intermediate lever sub-assembly.
d. Remove the 2 bolts and parking brake cable No. 1 clamp from the body.
e. Remove the parking brake cable No.2 clamp and No.3 clamp from the parking brake cable assembly No.3.





f. Remove the parking brake cable No.5 clamp and anchor block.
12. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY NO.3
a. Install the parking brake cable No.5 clamp and anchor block.
b. Install the parking brake cable No.2 clamp and No.3 clamp to the parking brake cable assembly No.3.
c. Place the parking brake cable No. 1 clamp to the body and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 6 Nm (61 kgf-cm, 53 inch lbs.)
d. Attach the parking brake cable assembly No.3 to the parking brake intermediate lever sub-assembly.
e. Attach the parking brake cable assembly No.3 to the 2 clamps and tighten bolts A, B and C.
Torque:
Bolt A: 6 Nm (61 kgf-cm, 53 inch lbs.)
Bolt B, C: 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.)





f. Install parking brake cable assembly No.3 to the rear axle carrier with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 8 Nm (81 kgf-cm, 70 inch lbs.)
13. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH





a. Apply high temperature grease to the parking brake shoe lever LH.
b. Install parking brake shoe lever to the parking brake cable assembly No.3.





NOTICE: Carefully distinguish the RH and LH on the parking brake shoe lever.





14. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH NO.1
a. Install the parking brake shoe assembly LH No.1 with a pin, shoe hold-down spring and the cap.





15. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH NO.2
a. Apply high temperature grease to the shoe adjuster.
b. Place the parking brake shoe assembly LH No.2 and shoe adjuster.
c. Connect the tension spring.
d. Install the pin, shoe hold-down spring and the cap.





16. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING
a. Using SST, install the brake shoe return tension spring.

17. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION
a. Make sure that all the parts are installed properly. If not, reinstall the parts properly.





18. INSTALL REAR DISC
a. Align the matchmarks on the disc and rear axle hub.





19. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE
a. Remove the hole plug.
b. Turn the shoe adjuster and expand the shoes until the disc locks.
c. Return the shoe adjuster 7 notches.
d. Install the hole plug.





20. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH
a. Temporarily tighten the brake caliper with the 2 new bolts.

NOTICE:
^ Brake caliper bolts can not be reused.
^ Do not twist the brake hose.
^ Make sure that no damage and no foreign matter is attached on the bolts.

b. Pulling the brake caliper towards the outer side of the vehicle and tighten bolt A first then bolt B.
Torque: 78 Nm (800 kgf-cm, 58 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: Do not over tighten the bolts.

21. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
22. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1
23. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
24. INSTALL OXYGEN SENSOR
25. SETTLING PARKING BRAKE SHOES AND DISC
a. Drive the vehicle at approximately 50 km/h (31 mph) on a safe, level and dry road.
b. Depress the parking brake pedal with a force of 150 N (15 kgf-cm, 34 lbs.).
c. Drive the vehicle for approximately 400 meters (0.25 mile) in this condition.
d. Repeat this procedure 2 or 3 times.
26. CHECK PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL
27. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL
