Thermostat: Service and Repair
THERMOSTATComponents:
REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
2. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER
3. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
4. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 bolts and cover.
5. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
6. REMOVE NO.1 AIR CLEANER INLET
a. Remove the bolt and inlet.
7. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE
8. REMOVE WATER INLET
a. Remove the 3 nuts, water inlet and gasket.
9. REMOVE THERMOSTAT
a. Remove the thermostat from the water inlet.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL THERMOSTAT
a. Install a new gasket to the thermostat.
HINT: When installing the thermostat to the gasket, be careful not to deform the gasket. Make sure that the thermostat is properly installed into the groove of the gasket as shown in the illustration.
b. Insert the thermostat into the water inlet housing with the jiggle valve facing straight upward.
HINT: The jiggle valve may be set within 30° of either side of the prescribed position.
2. INSTALL WATER INLET
a. Install the water inlet with the 3 nuts.
Torque: 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.)
3. ADD ENGINE COOLANT
4. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS
a. Check for engine coolant leaks.
5. INSTALL INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE
6. CONNECT NO.1 AIR CLEANER INLET
a. Install the inlet with the bolt.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.)
7. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
8. INSTALL V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Install the cover with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.)
9. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER
10. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
11. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.
NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL THERMOSTAT
a. Install a new gasket to the thermostat.
HINT: When installing the thermostat to the gasket, be careful not to deform the gasket. Make sure that the thermostat is properly installed into the groove of the gasket as shown in the illustration.
b. Insert the thermostat into the water inlet housing with the jiggle valve facing straight upward.
HINT: The jiggle valve may be set within 30° of either side of the prescribed position.
2. INSTALL WATER INLET
a. Install the water inlet with the 3 nuts.
Torque: 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft.lbs.)
3. ADD ENGINE COOLANT
4. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS
a. Check for engine coolant leaks.
5. INSTALL INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE
6. CONNECT NO.1 AIR CLEANER INLET
a. Install the inlet with the bolt.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.)
7. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
8. INSTALL V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Install the cover with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.)
9. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER
10. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
11. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.
