Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
3. REMOVE FLOOR NO.1 UNDER COVER
a. Remove the 2 hole plugs.
b. Remove the 5 nuts, 5 clips and under cover.
4. REMOVE CANISTER
a. Disconnect the air inlet line tube (leak detection pump) and vent line tube.
1. Pinch the retainer and then raise it.
NOTE:
- Do not use any tools in this procedure.
- Check for any dirt and foreign matter contamination in the valve and around the connector. Clean if necessary. Foreign matter may damage the O-rings or cause leaks in the seal between the valve and connector.
- Do not allow any scratches or foreign objects on the parts when disconnecting the tube.
- Do not forcibly bend, twist or turn the nylon tube.
- Protect the disconnected part by covering it with a plastic bag after disconnecting the tube.
- If the tube connector and pipe are stuck, push and pull to release them.
b. Disconnect the purge line hose from the pipe.
c. Disconnect the connector (leak detection pump).
d. Remove the 4 bolts, 2 plastic nuts and canister.
e. Detach the 2 clamps.
f. Disconnect the purge line hose from the canister.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL CANISTER
a. Connect the purge line hose to the charcoal canister.
b. Attach the 2 clamps.
c. Install the canister with the 4 bolts and 2 plastic nuts.
Torque: 21 N.m (215 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)
d. Connect the connector (leak detection pump).
e. Connect the purge line hose to the pipe.
f. Connect the air inlet line tube (leak detection pump) and vent line tube to the pipe, as given in A in the illustration. Then push up the retainer to lock the claws, as shown in B in the illustration.
NOTE:
- Check that there are no scratches or foreign objects around the connected part of the fuel tube connector and pipe before performing this work.
- After connecting the fuel tank vent tube, check that the fuel tank vent tube is securely connected by pulling the fuel tube connector and pipe.
2. INSTALL FLOOR NO. 1 UNDER COVER
a. Install the under cover with the 5 nuts and 5 clips.
b. Install the 2 hole plugs.
3. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
4. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH
5. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.
NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
