STEERING PAD

REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. REMOVE SWITCH AND VOLUME CASE




a. Using a screwdriver, detach the claw to remove the switch.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

3. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER




a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws to remove the No. 2 steering wheel cover.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

4. REMOVE STEERING PAD




a. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, loosen the 2 "TORX" screws until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.




b. Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel, as shown in the illustration. Then support the steering pad with one hand.

NOTE: When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.

c. Disconnect the horn connector.
d. Disconnect the 2 connectors and remove the steering pad.

NOTE: When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL STEERING PAD




a. Support the steering pad with one hand.
b. Connect the 2 connectors to the steering pad.

NOTE: When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

c. Connect the horn connector.
d. Confirm that the circumference groove of the "TORX" screw fits in the screw case, and place the steering pad onto the steering wheel.
e. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, tighten the 2 "TORX" screws.

Torque: 8.8 N.m (90 kgf.cm, 78 in.lbf)

2. INSTALL SWITCH AND VOLUME CASE




a. Attach the claw to install the switch.

3. INSTALL LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER




a. Attach the 2 claws to install the cover.

4. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
5. INSPECT STEERING PAD
a. With the steering pad installed on the vehicle, perform a visual check. If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the steering pad with a new one:
Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the steering pad top surface or in the grooved portion.

b. Make sure that the horn sounds.

HINT: If the horn does not sound, inspect the horn system.

6. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

7. CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT
a. Check the SRS warning light.
