Rear Lower Arm
REAR LOWER ARMCOMPONENTS:
ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. INSPECT REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM BALL JOINT RATTLE
(a) Jack up the vehicle.
(b) Shake the suspension arm by hand and check for rattle.
Standard rattle: No rattle is felt
REMOVAL
HINT:
^ Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side
^ The procedures listed below are for the LH side.
1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
2. REMOVE NO. 2 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR
3. REMOVE REAR SPEED SENSOR LH
4. REMOVE LOAD SENSING VALVE SENSOR BRACKET
5. REMOVE REAR STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH
6. DISCONNECT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY LH (for Coil suspension)
7. DISCONNECT PNEUMATIC CYLINDER WITH REAR SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY LH (for Air suspension)
8. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Using a plastic-faced hammer or equivalent, strike the part labeled A from the rear of the vehicle to maintain the clearance at the slide pin area.
NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the arm.
(b) Remove the nut, washer, bolt and No. 2 suspension arm from the axle carrier.
(c) Remove the nut, No. 2 suspension toe adjust plate, rear suspension attachment and No. 2 suspension arm from the suspension member.
9. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Remove the nut on the rear axle carrier side.
(b) Install 2 spacers (SST spacer B) onto the rear No. 1 control arm so that there is a space of approximately 1 mm between the arm and spacers.
SST 09960-20010 (09961-02060)
NOTICE:
^ Make sure to install the spacers (SST spacer B) as the axle carrier spacer may shift.
^ As SST may become damaged, make sure the space between the arm and spacers is not 1 mm or less.
(c) Using SST, disconnect the rear No. 1 control arm from the axle carrier.
SST 09960-20010 (09961-02010)
NOTICE:
^ Do not damage the dust cover.
^ As the dust cover may be damaged, adjust SST with the center nut so that the body and crow are parallel.
^ Make sure to tie the string of to the vehicle to prevent SST from dropping.
(d) Remove the bolt, nut and No. 1 suspension arm from the suspension member.
INSPECTION
1. INSPECT REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Temporarily install the nut, and flip the ball joint stud back and forth 5 times as shown in the illustration.
(b) Use a torque wrench to turn the nut continuously at a rate of 3 to 5 seconds per turn. Take the torque reading on the fifth turn.
Standard turning torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) or less
