REMOVAL
1. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

NOTICE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

3. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
4. INSPECT REAR UPPER NO. 1 CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT RATTLE
5. INSPECT REAR UPPER NO. 2 CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT RATTLE
6. INSPECT REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM BALL JOINT RATTLE
7. INSPECT TOE CONTROL LINK BALL JOINT RATTLE





8. DISCONNECT LOAD SENSING VALVE SENSOR BRACKET LH
(a) Remove the bolt and disconnect the sensor bracket.
9. DISCONNECT LOAD SENSING VALVE SENSOR BRACKET RH (w/ Air Suspension)

HINT: Use the same procedures described for the LH side.





10. REMOVE NO. 2 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR
(a) Remove the 3 nuts and support protector.





11. REMOVE NO. 1 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR
(a) Remove the 3 nuts and support protector.





12. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE LH
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and rear suspension member brace.





13. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE RH
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and rear suspension member brace.
14. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT LH
15. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT RH

16. REMOVE REAR SPEED SENSOR LH
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and rear speed sensor.
17. REMOVE PAD WEAR INDICATOR WIRE (for RH Side)

19. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG
20. DISCONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH

(a) Remove the 2 nuts and parking cable support bracket.
30. DISCONNECT REAR STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH

32. DISCONNECT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY LH (w/ Coil Suspension)

34. DISCONNECT PNEUMATIC CYLINDER WITH REAR SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY LH (w/ Air Suspension)

36. DISCONNECT REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH

42. DISCONNECT REAR UPPER NO. 1 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY LH

44. DISCONNECT REAR UPPER NO. 2 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY LH
45. DISCONNECT REAR UPPER NO. 2 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY RH

46. REMOVE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Using a plastic-faced hammer, separate the drive shaft from the rear axle assembly.
(b) Remove the rear axle carrier.

NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to damage the boot.
^ Use a wire or an equivalent to keep the rear drive shaft assembly from hanging down.

47. REMOVE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY RH

48. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Using SST, remove the rear drive shaft.
SST 09520-01010, 09520-24010 (09520-32040)

NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to damage the oil seal, inboard joint boot and drive shaft dust cover.
^ Be careful not to drop the drive shaft.

49. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH

HINT: Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

INSPECTION





1. INSPECT REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Check that there is no excessive play in the outboard joint.
(b) Check that the inboard joint slides smoothly in the thrust direction.
(c) Check that there is no excessive play in the radial directions of the inboard joint.
(d) Check the boot for damage.

INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Coat the spline of the inboard joint shaft with gear oil.
(b) Set the shaft snap ring with the opening side facing downward.





(c) Align the shaft splines and install the drive shaft with a brass bar and hammer.

NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to damage the drive shaft dust cover, boot and oil seal.
^ Move the drive shaft while keeping it level.

HINT: Whether the inboard joint shaft is in contact with the pinion shaft or not can be checked from the sound or feeling when driving it in.

2. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH

HINT: Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

3. INSTALL REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Install the rear drive shaft to the rear axle assembly.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot.

4. INSTALL REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY RH

5. CONNECT REAR UPPER NO. 1 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY LH
6. CONNECT REAR UPPER NO. 1 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY RH

7. CONNECT REAR UPPER NO. 2 CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY LH

9. TEMPORARILY CONNECT REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH

21. INSTALL PARKING CABLE SUPPORT BRACKET
(a) Install the parking brake anchor block and parking cable support bracket with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 76 N*m (775 kgf*cm, 56 ft.*lbf)
22. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE
23. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER
24. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY
25. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY
26. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET
27. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING
28. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING
29. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION
30. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT LH

32. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS

39. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR LH
(a) Install the rear speed sensor with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 8.5 N*m (87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf)
40. INSTALL PAD WEAR INDICATOR WIRE (for RH Side)
41. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR RH

42. STAKE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT LH

(a) Install the rear suspension member brace with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 50 N*m (510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf)





53. INSTALL REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE RH
(a) Install the rear suspension member brace with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 50 N*m (510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf)





54. INSTALL NO. 2 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR
(a) Install the support protector with the 3 nuts.
Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)





55. INSTALL NO. 1 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR
(a) Install the support protector with the 3 nuts.
Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)





56. CONNECT LOAD SENSING VALVE SENSOR BRACKET LH
(a) Connect the sensor bracket with the bolt.
Torque: 3.6 to 6.9 N*m (37 to 70 kgf*cm, 32 to 61 in.*lbf)
57. CONNECT LOAD SENSING VALVE SENSOR BRACKET RH (w/ Air Suspension)

58. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
59. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
60. INSTALL COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH
61. PERFORM PARKING BRAKE SHOE BEDDING
(a) Perform parking brake shoe bedding.
62. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
(a) Perform initialization.

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

63. CHECK SUSPENSION CONTROL SYSTEM (for Air Suspension)
(a) Check the suspension control system.
64. INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT
(a) Inspect and adjust the rear wheel alignment.
65. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
(a) Check speed sensor signal.
