AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL: REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY (for 4GR-FSE): REMOVAL

1. REMOVE REAR WHEELS

2. DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL

(a) Using a hexagon wrench, remove the rear differential filler plug and gasket.

(b) Using a hexagon wrench, remove the rear differential drain plug and gasket to drain the differential oil.

3. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT WITH CENTER BEARING ASSEMBLY

4. REMOVE TAIL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY Removal

5. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 FLOOR BOARD SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

7. REMOVE NO. 1 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR

45. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY

(a) Support the rear differential carrier assembly with a jack.

CAUTION:
* The rear differential carrier assembly is very heavy. Make sure to securely support it with a transmission jack to prevent it from dropping.
* In order to prevent the rear differential carrier assembly from tilting excessively or falling, perform the following procedure using several people to hold the rear differential carrier assembly.
(b) Using a straight hexagon and a wrench, remove the 3 bolts (A) as shown in the illustration.





NOTICE:
Remove the bolts while securing the rear suspension member sub-assembly.

(c) Remove the 2 bolts (B), 2 rear lower differential mount stoppers and rear differential carrier assembly.

NOTICE:
* Do not damage the installation surface when removing the rear differential carrier assembly.
* Residual oil may leak when the rear differential carrier assembly is removed.
* Remove the bolts while securing the rear suspension member sub-assembly.

(d) Remove the 2 rear upper differential mount stoppers from rear differential carrier assembly.
