Vacuum Amplifier: Testing and Inspection
1. Remove air cleaner.
2. On California vehicles, disconnect vacuum hose between vacuum amplifier and EGR solenoid valve at solenoid valve and connect vacuum gauge to hose.
3. On non-California vehicles, disconnect vacuum hose between vacuum amplifier and water thermovalve at water thermovalve and connect vacuum gauge to hose.
4. Start engine and run at idle.
5. Disconnect vacuum hose between carburetor and vacuum amplifier at carburetor and ensure vacuum gauge reads 1.8 to 2.2 inches Hg.
6. Connect vacuum hose to carburetor.
7. Gradually increase engine speed to 3300 RPM and ensure vacuum gauge reads approximately 3.54 inches Hg
8. Connect vacuum hoses to proper locations.
9. If test results are unsatisfactory, replace vacuum amplifier.
