Disassembly and Assembly


Distributor, Disassemble

1. Remove distributor cap and rotor.
2. Remove governor assembly to shaft retaining bolt, then the governor assembly.
3. Remove pickup coil retaining screws, then the pickup coil and igniter.
4. Disconnect vacuum advance link, then remove vacuum advance unit to distributor housing retaining screws. Remove vacuum advance unit from distributor.
5. Remove signal plate retaining screws, then the signal plate.
6. Remove retaining plate attaching screws, the the retaining plate.
7. Remove driven gear retaining pin, then the gear and washers.
8. Remove distributor shaft through top of distributor housing.

Inspection

Using an ohmmeter, check pickup coil for short or open circuit. Pickup coil resistance should be 945-1155 ohms at 68°F. If not within specifications, replace pickup coil.

Distributor, Assemble

1. Reverse disassembly procedure to assemble. When installing distributor cam, align marks on driven gear and distributor housing. Temporarily install rotor on cam, then install rotor and cam onto governor pin, so that metal strip on rotor is aligned parallel with edge of vacuum advance unit.
