Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Disconnect shift rod from transmission.
4. Remove exhaust pipe and catalytic converter.
5. Disconnect speedometer cable and all electrical connectors from transmission.
6. Disconnect driveshaft from transmission.
7. Remove starter motor, then the gusset plate attaching bolts and gusset plates.
8. Remove bolts securing transmission to rear of engine.
9. Remove converter lower cover and the front under cover.
10. Mark drive plate and torque converter for correct alignment during installation, then remove converter-to-drive plate attaching bolts.
11. Remove vacuum hose attaching clip from side of transmission case.
12. Disconnect oil cooler lines from transmission housing.
13. Remove engine hanger attaching bolts and the engine hanger.
14. Remove oil filler pipe and oil level gauge from transmission.
15. Remove oil cooler line bracket from side of transmission case.
16. Support transmission with a suitable jack and remove transmission mount attaching bolts.
17. Lower transmission and mount from vehicle, then remove mount from transmission.
18. Reverse procedure to install.
