Interior Trim - Repair Of Headliner Front Trim

PURPOSE
This bulletin provides repair procedures for Eclipse vehicles manufactured before December 1989, in which, the front headlining trim has warped due to high heat conditions. There is a new replacement part and installation procedure to correct this condition.

INSTALLATION DETAILS
1. Using a plastic trim tool, detach the front pillar trim - the clip mounting areas and Velcro areas on the backside. Remove the front pillar trim.

2. Remove and discard the original front headlining trim and the metal clips used to secure it (Figure 2). The clips are not used with the new trim.
The new headlining trim attaches differently than the original trim. Use the following installation procedure to install the new trim.

3. Push the end of the new headlining trim into place on the 20 section (Figure 3) of the roof flange shown in Figure 4. Hold the remaining length of the trim at a 90 degree angle to the roof flange and hold it against the windshield.

4. Push the trim up and work it onto the roof flange. As you install the trim onto the flange, position it so there is a gap between the edge of the trim and the headlining (See Figure 5).

5. When the trim is fully installed across the entire length of the roof flange, roll the trim up toward the headlining to close the gap with the headlining as shown in Figure 6.
6. Reinstall the front pillar trim.
