Fig. 5 Front Disc Brake Assembly. Eclipse Before April 1989:
Fig. 7 Measuring Hub & Brake Drag Torque:
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel.
2. Remove lower lockpin, Fig. 5, and lift caliper body upward, then support caliper with wire. Lockpin is coated with special grease. Use caution not to remove grease and ensure no dirt adheres to pin.
3. Remove inner shim(s), anti-squeak shim and pad assemblies from support mounting.
4. Remove pad clips.
5. Measure hub torque with pad removed to aid in measuring brake drag torque after pad installation, Fig. 7.
6. Install pad clips, pad assemblies, inner shim(s) and anti-squeak shim onto the support mounting.
7. Apply a coating of suitable grease to the pad and anti-squeak shim contact surface and to the anti-squeak shim and inner shim contact surface. Ensure that grease does not come in contact with brake pad assemble.
8. Lower caliper body into position, then install lower lockpin tightening to specification.
9. Check brake drag torque as follows:
a. Start engine and hold brake pedal down for 5 seconds.
b. Stop engine and turn brake rotor forward 10 turns.
c. Check brake drag using suitable tool.
d. If the difference between brake drag torque and hub torque exceeds 3 ft. lbs., disassemble caliper assembly, clean and check for corrosion, worn or damaged parts.
10. Install wheel.
