Purpose And Required Operations
PurposeThis bulletin provides a detailed procedure for inspection and repair of the emission control system on certain 1990 2.OL turbocharged Federal Emission Certified Eclipse FWD and AWD models. A letter has been sent to all owners of the affected vehicles informing them to return their vehicles to their Mitsubishi Motors dealer to have the engine serviced. A copy of this letter is shown in this bulletin.
Please note that the customer is not to be charged for the repairs covered by this bulletin. To achieve the desired results, the procedure MUST be followed EXACTLY as described in this bulletin.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
All dealerships MUST perform all steps described in this bulletin. Incomplete repairs will lead to emissions non-compliance and obvious customer dissatisfaction. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will survey the results of this campaign several months after starting. If incomplete repairs or non-compliance is found, another recall could be ordered or other action undertaken by EPA.
Furthermore, the EPA may consider failure to properly perform emission recall procedures as tampering, which may subject the servicing dealer to a line of up to $25,000 per vehicle. Confirm that you are using the proper Emission Recall Bulletin repair procedures and service kits for the vehicle model year and engine size that you are working on. Service procedures are different even though some vehicles may look alike.
Required Operations
1. Replace the Oxygen Sensor.
2. Clear any diagnostic codes stored in the MPI system's ECM using the Scan Tool.
