Steering - Corrective Procedure For Pull or Drift
90mitsubishi11 SUBJECT:STEERING PULL OR DRIFT CORRECTIVE
PROCEDURE
NO. TSB-90-31-001
DATE September, 1990
MODEL Eclipse
PURPOSE
This bulletin provides a corrective procedure to be used where steering pull or drift is caused by tire construction characteristics.
CONDITION
The customer complains of a steering pull or drift on uncambered road surfaces (i.e.: surfaces without a crown) and the tire pressure and wheel alignment appear correct.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
If front and rear wheel alignments are within the specified ranges and the tire pressures are at the values indicated in the tire pressure chart below, the following steps should be taken:
Figure 1:
1. Switch the tires on one side of the car. See Figure 1.
NOTE: Adjust tire pressures after changing wheel locations.
Figure 2:
2. Road test the car. If the condition persists, return the tires to their original position. Then repeat Step 1 on the other side of the car. See Figure 2. (This tire switch procedure is necessary because the pull or drift is caused by the front tires as a set, and the set needs to be broken up.)
NOTE: Again adjust the tire pressures to specifications, front and rear.
3. Road test the car again. If the condition still persists, re-check the front and rear alignment and check for worn or damaged parts.
