Windshield/Moulding Reinstallation
1. On surfaces where the adhesive will be applied, remove all dirt and grease from the glass and the body flange using isopropyl alcohol. After cleaning, allow the parts to dry for more than three minutes.
2. Apply 3M Super Fast Urethane Primer (#8608 or equivalent) to the entire bonding surface of the glass, both to the inside surface and to the edge of the glass (Figure 8). Apply the primer to the entire length of the body flange.
NOTE:
Do not touch the surfaces that are coated with primer. If the surfaces become contaminated with any substance, clean the area thoroughly using isopropyl alcohol and reapply the primer.
3. Apply a strip of ribbon sealer completely around the perimeter of the windshield opening.
Figure 9 shows a cross section of the vehicle and the location of the ribbon sealer on the body flange.
4. Cut the nozzle tip of the 3M Super Fast Urethane Auto Glass Sealant into a V shape. For the correct size and shape of the nozzle tip refer to Figure 10
5. Using an adhesive application gun, apply 3M Super Fast Urethane Auto Glass Sealant (#8609 or equivalent) along the outside of the ribbon sealer (Figure 11).
NOTE:
The adhesive material begins to cure after fifteen minutes when exposed to air.
6. Using a glassholder (Figure 12), place the glass in the body opening.
7. Press the glass gently so that no adhesive is squeezed out from under the glass edge (Figure 13).
NOTE:
Do not move the glass after installing onto the body. Place the glass in the original position. Use care not to cover the water drainage groove with adhesive (in the lower corner of the pinch weld flange).
8. Press the glass gently so that no adhesive is squeezed out from under the glass edge.
CAUTION:
Do not move or cause the body to flex (Example: Lifting one corner with a jack or driving the vehicle on an uneven surface.) while the adhesive is hardening, because this movement can damage the bond between the glass and the body.
9. After bonding the glass to the body apply additional sealant completely around the outside perimeter of the bonded area (Figure 14).
10. Smooth out the adhesive surface. Mount the upper moulding before the adhesive hardens (Figure 15).
NOTE:
When the upper moulding is pressed in, make sure that the lower portion of the moulding is inserted completely under the glass.
11. Remove any excess sealant that may have squeezed out.
12. Perform a water test on the newly bonded glass. Use a gentle cold water spray, being careful not to direct a powerful stream of water on the new adhesive (Figure 16).
13. Allow the water to flow over the edges of the glass. In the event there are leaks, carefully dry the leak area and apply sealant to the leak point.
14. Reinstall the Left and Right Drip Rail Mouldings, front deck lower garnish and wiper arms. Reinstall the inside rear view mirror.
