Rear Headliner Sag/Headliner Replacement

1. Referring to the illustration, disconnect the four snaps at the rear of the headliner.

NOTE:
Refer to the Eclipse Spyder Service Manual, Volume 3, Section 2, for more headliner removal and installation information.

2. Open the convertible top halfway, then remove the screws from the front headliner attachment strap, then remove the screws from the center attachment strap.

3. For proper alignment when reinstalling the headliner, mark the bows lightly at the end of each retainer.

4. Remove the headliner

5. Inspect the headliner to see if it attaches to the rear glass or the headliner. Replace the headliner with a new one if the original headliner was attached to the top cover

6. If the original headliner was attached to the rear glass, make sure the Velcro has good adhesion to the glass. If not, remove the old Velcro and clean the glass thoroughly.

NOTE:
If the vehicle had the headliner attached to the top cover, the hook fastener on the top material does not require removal.

7. Position the two 12 inch (300mm) long hook fasteners (3M # 6480 Velcro) on the top edge of the glass using firm pressure.

NOTE:
Position the hook fastener so the edge is not visible when the headliner is installed.

8. Let the adhesive on back of the Velcro hook fastener set for at least one minute.

Check the adhesive bonding with light finger pressure. If the adhesive is not yet set, allow more time before attaching the new headliner.

9. After you are sure the Velcro faster adhesive is set, proceed with headliner installation. With the top in the closed position, attach the headliner clips to the # 2 bow between the marks you made when removing the headliner.

10. Install the clips on the # 3 and # 4 bows in the same manner as the # 2 bow.

11. Attach the headliner to the Velcro in the back glass with at least 15 mm of minimum fastener contact engagement overlap.

12. Reinstall the six headliner attachment strap screws and snap the four rear headliner attachment snaps into place.

13. Attach the headliner to the #1 bow dual lock. If the # 1 bow dual lock is loose, go to the following instructions for repairing Headliner Sag at the # 1 Bow.
