Headliner Sag at the # 1 Bow
To correct sagging of the headliner at the # 1 bow, new dual lock must be installed and secured with 6 pop rivets according to the following procedures.1. Move the convertible top to the fully open position.
2. Detach the headliner from the # 1 bow and fold back to access the dual lock fastener.
3. Remove and discard the dual lock and any tape residue from the # 1 bow. Clean thoroughly.
4. Apply primer (Tite R Bond 2287 or equivalent) to the area on # 1 bow where the dual lock was removed. Let the primer dry for at least 20 seconds.
5. Attach a new strip of dual lock (3M # 6484 or equivalent) 1/2 to 3/4 inch wide to the # 1 bow. Use a roller to apply pressure evenly over the entire length of the dual lock.
NOTE:
Temperature should be between 50°F and 150°F for maximum adhesion of the dual lock to the # 1 bow.
6. Slide a catch tray over the rear seats and trim to prevent metal shavings from entering the vehicle when drilling the holes for the dual lock securing rivets.
7. Starting at approximately 3/4 inch from the ends of the # 1 bow and spacing the remaining holes about seven inches apart, drill six holes through the dual lock fastener and into the # 1 bow. These holes should be the correct diameter for the 1/8 inch rivets.
CAUTION!
Make sure the top cover material is lifted away from the # 1 bow and use drill stops to keep from drilling holes through the top cover material. Remove any burrs on the exit side of the drilled holes.
NOTE:
Vacuuming while drilling will help make vehicle cleaning easier.
8. Install the six, 1/8 inch x 1/8 inch aluminum pop rivets into the newly drilled holes in the # 1 bow.
9. Remove the catch tray. Be careful not to spill any metal shavings inside the vehicle.
10. Reattach the headliner to the dual lock on the # 1 bow. Use a roller to fasten the dual lock strips evenly. Make sure the dual lock strips have at least 5 mm of contact overlap for engagement. Reinstall the two headliner retaining screws into the side rails.
11. Close the topstack and latch it. Check that there are no wrinkles or waves in the headliner and that no rivets read through in the top cover. Repair if necessary.
