Thermostat: Testing and Inspection

NOTE: Be careful not to spill coolant over engine compartment. Use a rag to absorb coolant.





1. Check valve seating condition at normal room temperatures. It should seat tightly.
2. Check valve opening temperature and valve lift.
^ The standard valve opening temperature 76.5� C (170� F).
^ The valve lift is more than 10 mm when the temperature reaches 90� C (0.39 inch when the temperature reaches 194� F).
3. Then check if valve is closed at 5� C (9� F) below valve opening temperature.
