Steering Wheel: Service and Repair

1. Disarm airbag as described under Technician Safety Information.
2. Remove airbag module as follows:
a. Remove left and right airbag module retaining bolts. Discard bolts.
b. Remove airbag module from steering wheel.
c. Always place airbag module with pad side facing upward.
d. Do not attempt to disassemble airbag module.
e. Do not drop or impact airbag module. If any portion is deformed or cracked, replace module.
f. Do not allow oil, grease or water to come in contact with the airbag module.

3. Remove steering wheel using puller tool No. J25726-A or equivalent.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply suitable grease to entire surface of turn signal cancel pin and horn contact slip ring.
b. Airbag module retaining bolts are coated with a special bonding agent. Always discard old bolts and replace with new ones.
