DTC 81

DTC 81 Brake Thermal Model Limit Exceeded:

DTC 81 Brake Thermal Model Limit Exceeded:

CIRCUIT OPERATION
If excessive use of the Antilock Brake or Traction Control systems is detected by the EBTCM, it will disable Traction Control due to a possible brake over temperature condition. Excessive braking and/or Traction Control could result in degraded braking performance or possible damage to the rotors and/or brake pads.

FAILURE CONDITIONS
DTC 81 is set. The EBTCM illuminates the "TRACTION OFF" indicator and TCS is disabled as long as both driven wheel brake rotor temperatures are above 700°F. If the rotor temperatures go below 53O°F, then the "TRACTION OFF" indicator will be turned "OFF". DTC 81 will reset itself after 200 ignition cycles.

Possible Causes
^ Repeated heavy use of the Antilock Brake or Traction Control systems.
^ Intermittent wheel speed sensor.

The temperature values are an estimated figure calculated by the EBTCM. If the driven wheel brake rotors are known to be below 530°F, and the Brake Lamp Switch is properly adjusted and the Brake Lamp Switch CKT is OK, the likely cause of the malfunction is probably a defective EBTCM.
