Enabling the SIR System

WARNING: The Diagnostic Energy Reserve Module or Sensing And Diagnostic Module (DERM/SDM) can maintain enough voltage to cause air bag deployment for up to two minutes after the ignition switch is turned off and the battery is disconnected. Servicing the SIR system during this period may result in accidental deployment and personal injury.


1. Connect yellow 2-way connector to passenger's inflator pigtail, then install Connector Position Assurance (CPA).
2. Connect yellow 2-way SIR electrical connector at base of steering column, then install Connector Position Assurance (CPA).
3. Install lefthand sound insulator. If necessary, install courtesy lamp to sound insulator.
4. Install SIR fuse into fuse block, then turn ignition switch to the LOCK position and ensure "Inflatable Restraint" lamp flashes seven to nine times, then turns off. If lamp does not operate as specified, refer to Testing and Inspection.
