Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair

Fig. 4 Front Cover Seal Removal:

1. Remove crankshaft damper as described in Harmonic Balancer/Service and Repair.
2. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, pry front cover seal out of front cover, Fig. 4.
3. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Lubricate seal lips with clean engine oil prior to installation.
b. Use seal installer tool No. J-38818, or equivalent, to push seal into front cover until tool bottoms on cover.
