Defect & Vehicles Involved

DEFECT INVOLVED:

General Motors has decided that certain 1996 Aurora vehicles have been built with an incorrect positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve. The incorrect PCV valve has a flow rate approximately 1 ft 3/min. less than the PCV valve released for the Aurora engine. Possible results could be lower engine oil life, a higher probability of varnish and sludge or higher idle air control flow with a potential effect on vehicle emissions.

To prevent the possibility of this condition from occurring, Aurora retailers are to inspect and if necessary, replace the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve on all involved vehicles.

VEHICLES INVOLVED





Involved are certain (not all) 1996 Aurora model vehicles equipped with Federal and California Emissions, as listed within the VIN breakpoints as shown.











Specifically, all of the 169 vehicles, as shown, are involved. They are all 1996 Aurora vehicles built at the Orion assembly plant (Plant 4). The VIN's for each involved vehicle are listed in alpha-numerical sequence by the last eight (8) digits.

NOTE:
ALL OF THE 169 LISTED VEHICLES WILL REQUIRE INSPECTION FOR THE CORRECT PCV VALVE. SOME OF THESE SUSPECT VEHICLES WILL ALREADY HAVE THE CORRECT PCV VALVE INSTALLED. THEREFORE, AFTER INSPECTION, ONLY SOME OF THE VEHICLES WILL REQUIRE A PCV VALVE REPLACEMENT.

All vehicles listed on the Aurora retailer's printout will require inspection and/or correction. Campaign involvement, or campaign completion of any vehicle(s) in question, can be verified by utilizing VISS (Vehicle Information Service System).

Involved vehicles have been identified by Vehicle Identification Number Listings. Computer listings contain the complete Vehicle Identification Number, owner name and address data, and are furnished to involved Aurora retailers with the campaign bulletin. Owner name and address data furnished will enable retailers to follow-up with owners involved in this campaign. These listings may contain owner names and addresses obtained from State Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this listing to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign. Any Aurora retailer not receiving a computer listing with the campaign bulletin has no involved vehicles currently assigned.
