Condition
Some owners may comment on a "loose lumber" or rubber thumping noise coming from the rear of the vehicle when encountering small to medium road impacts.
Correction
Replace production rear shock mount with revised rear shock mount and add 2 mm washer between the lower retainer and the shock mount.
1. Road test and verity noise.
2. Remove necessary trunk trim to access the left and right upper shock mounts.
3. Remove shock mount cover.
4. Remove center (shock to shock mount) nut and retainer.
5. Remove shock mount (mount to body) nuts and reinforcement plate.
6. Disconnect ELC air line from shock.
7. Compress shock down and remove shock mount. Leave the lower retainer on the shock shaft.
Important:
Make note the orientation of the shock mount to shock. The new mount must be installed in the same position as the original mount.
Important:
Be sure to reuse the original upper and lower retainers when installing the revised shock mount.
8. Install 2 mm washer, P/N 22173563, over the lower retainer. See Figure 1.
9. Replace shock mount with revised shock mount, P/N 22166987. Install revised shock mount onto top of shock.
10. Install upper retainer and nut (shock shaft to shock mount).
11. Push up and expand shock into place so that the mount studs go through the shock tower.
12. Install shock mount nuts and tighten to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
13. Tighten center nut to 27 N.m (20 lb ft) (shock shaft to shock mount).
14. Install shock mount cover.
15. Connect ELC air line to shock.
16. Repeat steps 3 - 15 for opposite side shock mount replacement.
17. Install trunk trim.
18. Road test to verify concern.
