Forward & Coast Clutch Assembly

FORWARD & COAST CLUTCH ASSEMBLY 4T80-E TRANSAXLE


DISASSEMBLE











Refer to these images when servicing forward and coast clutch assemblies.

1. Remove snap ring, parking pawl gear and thrust bearing.
2. Remove forward and coast support and low roller clutch assembly.
3. Lift forward and coast clutch housing off coast clutch hub.
4. Remove thrust bearing from forward/ coast clutch housing, then final drive sun gear shaft.
5. Separate input carrier from input internal gear and flange.
6. Remove thrust bearing from coast clutch hub.
7. Remove snap ring, coast clutch hub, then thrust washer.
8. Remove forward sprag outer race and forward sprag from outer race.
9. Remove thrust washer, then remove snap ring to separate input internal gear from input gear flange
10. Remove thrust bearing from input carrier, then remove snap ring to separate input carrier and reaction internal gear. Thrust bearing will remain in input carrier.

INSPECTION
1. Inspect forward clutch sprag for damage.
2. Inspect input carrier pinion for broken teeth.
3. Inspect bearings for damage.
4. Inspect final drive sun gear shaft for spline damage.
5. Measure planet pinion endplay with a feeler gauge. Endplay should be 0.09-0.9O mm.
6. Inspect coast clutch hub and forward sprag outer race for spline damage.

ASSEMBLE
1. Install input carrier assembly to reaction internal gear with snap ring.
2. Install thrust bearing onto input carrier.
3. Install input internal gear flange to input internal gear with snap ring.
4. Install thrust washer onto flange.
5. Install forward sprag and outer race.




6. Install thrust washer onto coast clutch hub, then coast clutch hub onto flange.
7. Install snap ring.
8. Install thrust bearing onto coast clutch hub.
