Control Arm Bushing: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE- Tools Required
- J21474-44 1/2" Long Nut
- J21474-27 1/2" Puller Bolt/Thrust Bearing
- J23444-A High Pressure Lubricant
- J28685 Bushing Installer
- J41014-1 Bushing Remover
- J14014-2 Bushing Receiver
1. Remove the control arm from the vehicle. Refer to Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement.
2. Assemble the bushing tools by placing J21474-19 through the J14014-2 over the bushing against the control arm.
3. Lubricate the bolt threads with J23444-A
4. Install the J22222-2 (with the small end facing the bushing) and the J21474-18 onto the J21474-19.
5. Tighten the J21474-18 until the bushing is driven out of the control arm
6. Remove the bushing tools.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Start the bushing onto the control arm. The flat on the bushing must be vertical and rearward.
2. Assemble the bushing tools by placing J21474-19 through the J14014-2 over the bushing against the control arm.
3. Lubricate the bolt threads with J23444-A.
4. Install the J28685 (large end facing the bushing) and the J21474-18 onto the J21474-19.
5. Tighten the J21474-19 until the bushing is fully seated into the control arm.
6. Remove the bushing tools.
7. Install the control arm to the frame Refer to Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement.
