Instrument Panel (IP) - Tie Bar / Cross Vehicle Beam

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




CAUTION: This vehicle has a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine whether you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, refer to Repair Instructions in SIR. Failure to follow the CAUTIONS could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

1. Remove the Instrument Panel (IP) trim pad.
2. Remove the passenger SIR inflator module.
3. Remove the air distributor extension ducts.
4. Remove the brake pedal bracket and reinforcement.
5. Remove the bolts retaining the relay bracket and reposition the relay bracket aside.




6. Remove the bolts retaining the BCM bracket and reposition the BCM bracket aside.




7. Release the IP wiring harness retaining clips and reposition the wiring harness out of the way.
8. Remove the bolts retaining the HVAC module center support bracket.
9. Remove the HVAC module center support bracket.




10. Remove the bolts retaining the HVAC module to the cross vehicle beam.




11. Remove the bolts retaining the cross vehicle beam to the LH hinge pillar.




12. Remove the bolts retaining the cross vehicle beam to the RH hinge pillar.




13. Remove the cross vehicle beam from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE



1. Install the cross vehicle beam to the vehicle.




2. Install the cross vehicle beam to the RH hinge pillar retaining bolts; do not tighten.

IMPORTANT: Do not tighten bolts until step 4.




3. Install the cross vehicle beam to the LH hinge pillar retaining bolts.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

4. Tighten the bolts retaining the cross vehicle beam to both the LH and RH hinge pillars.

Tighten
Tighten the cross vehicle beam to hinge pillar retaining bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).




5. Install the HVAC module to the cross vehicle beam retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the HVAC module to the cross vehicle beam retaining bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).




6. Install the HVAC module center support bracket.
7. Install the HVAC module center support bracket retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the HVAC module center support bracket retaining bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

8. Install the IP wiring harness into position and secure the retaining clips.




9. Install the BCM bracket into position.
10. Install the BCM bracket retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the BCM bracket retaining bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).




11. Install the relay bracket into position.
12. Install the relay bracket retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the relay bracket retaining bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

13. Install the brake pedal bracket and reinforcement.
14. Install the air distributor extension ducts.
15. Install the passenger SIR inflator module.
16. Install the instrument panel (IP) trim pad.
