Parking Lock Cable: Adjustments
Important: The new park lock cable is pre-adjusted. After installation, a new or old park lock cable will need to be adjusted if either of the following conditions occur.^ The key in the ignition switch can move to the LOCK position when the console shift control is not in Park.
^ The console shift control can be moved out of Park when the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
1. Set the parking brakes and block the wheels.
2. The ignition switch must be in the ACC position.
3. The console shift control must be in the Park position.
4. Open the console storage lid.
5. Ensure the cup holder is in the open position.
6. Remove the front floor console trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Front Floor Console in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
7. Disconnect the park lock cable from the console shift control.
8. Open the lock in the adjuster body by prying up the lock with a flat-bladed tool.
9. Adjust the adjuster body so that one more rib is visible.
Important: The cable should move freely within the adjuster body.
10. Depress the lock on the adjuster body.
11. Connect the park lock cable to the console shift control.
12. Verify the functional operation of the park lock system.
^ The key in the ignition switch moves to the LOCK position only when the console shift control is in Park.
^ The console shift control moves out of Park only when the ignition switch is in the ACC or RUN position (brake pedal must be depressed in the RUN position).
13. Readjust the adjuster body, if necessary.
Important: The cup holder must be in the open position in order to install the front floor console trim plate.
14. Install the front floor console trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Front Floor Console in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
15. Close the console storage lid.
16. Release the parking brakes and unblock the wheels.
