Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement^ Tools Required
- J 41623-B Cooler Quick Connect Tool
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
2. Remove the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe retaining bolt from the fan shroud.
3. Slide the plastic cap off the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe quick connect fitting.
4. Disconnect the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe from the radiator using the J 41623-B.
5. Raise and support the vehicle.
6. Remove the rear exhaust manifold pipe in order to gain access to the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe fitting.
7. Disconnect the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe from the rear of the transaxle utilizing one of the following methods.
^ If equipped with a threaded fitting.
7.1. Hold the transaxle oil cooler pipe adapter in order to prevent the adapter from turning.
7.2. Loosen and disconnect the transaxle oil cooler pipe from the oil cooler pipe adapter.
^ If equipped with a quick connect fitting.
7.3. Slide the plastic cap off the transaxle oil cooler pipe quick connect fitting.
7.4. Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler pipe from the transaxle using the J 41623.
8. Remove the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe from the vehicle.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Disconnect the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe fitting from the radiator.
11. Disconnect the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe from the front of the transaxle utilizing one of the following methods.
^ If equipped with a threaded fitting.
11.5. Hold the transaxle oil cooler pipe adapter in order to prevent the adapter from turning.
11.6. Loosen and disconnect the transaxle oil cooler pipe from the oil cooler pipe adapter
^ If equipped with a quick connect fitting.
11.7. Slide the plastic cap off the transaxle oil cooler pipe quick connect fitting.
11.8. Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler pipe from tire transaxle using the J 41623-B.
12. Remove the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Allow sufficient clearance around the transaxle oil cooler pipes and around the hoses to prevent damage or wear which may cause fluid loss.
1. Position the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe into the engine compartment.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Connect the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe to the radiator.
Important: Ensure the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe is positioned upwards while tightening.
^ Tighten the transaxle oil cooler pipe fitting to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
3. Connect the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe to the front of the transaxle utilizing one of the following methods.
^ If equipped with a threaded fitting.
3.9. Hold the transaxle oil cooler pipe adapter in order to prevent the adapter from turning.
3.10. Install the transaxle oil cooler pipe to the oil cooler pipe adapter.
^ Tighten the transaxle oil cooler pipe fitting to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
^ If equipped with a quick connect fitting.
3.11. Push the transaxle oil cooler pipe into the transaxle quick connect fitting, until a "click" is heard.
3.12. Tug gently on the cooler pipe to ensure proper retention.
3.13. Slide the plastic cap over the quick connect fitting.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. Position the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe in the proper location.
6. Install the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe retainers to the transaxle.
7. Connect the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe to the rear of the transaxle utilizing one of the following methods.
^ If equipped with a threaded fitting.
7.14. Hold the transaxle oil cooler pipe adapter in order to prevent the adapter from turning.
7.15. Install the transaxle oil cooler pipe to the oil cooler pipe adapter.
^ Tighten the transaxle oil cooler pipe fitting to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
^ If equipped with a quick connect fitting.
7.16. Push the transaxle oil cooler pipe into the transaxle quick connect fitting, until a "click" is heard.
7.17. Tug gently on the cooler pipe to ensure proper retention.
7.18. Slide the plastic cap over the quick connect fitting.
8. Install the rear exhaust manifold pipe.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Push the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe into the radiator quick connect fitting, until a "click" is heard.
11. Tug gently on the cooler pipe to ensure proper retention.
12. Slide the plastic cap (1) over the quick connect joint.
13. Install the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe retaining bolt to the fan shroud.
^ Tighten the transaxle oil cooler pipe retaining bolt to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
14. Install the air cleaner assembly.
Notice: Do NOT overfill the transaxle. The overfilling of the transaxle causes foaming, loss of fluid, shift complaints, and possible damage to the transaxle.
15. Adjust the fluid level.
16. Inspect for fluid leaks.
