Pinion Gear: Adjustments
1. Press front and rear bearing outer races into gear carrier using a press or a hammer and a suitable drift. Ensure outer race makes full contact with gear carrier and does not tilt during installation.

2. Install drive pinion bearings and tools from kit C-4626 into gear carrier according to tool manufacturer's instructions. Gradually tighten nut on installation tool, until drive pinion front and rear bearing preload is 7-13 inch lbs., without oil seal.

3. Mount tool No. MB990720 in gear carrier side bearing seat, then select a suitable shim from chart, which corresponds to clearance between tools C-4626 and MB990720. When installing tool MB990720, ensure side bearing seat is clean and cut out portion of tool is positioned as shown.

4. Install selected shim between rear bearing and drive pinion, then press rear bearing onto drive pinion.
