SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Engine will exhibit a spark knock condition during light to medium acceleration.

PARTS REQUIRED

1 Spark Knock Package, PN 4293896, which contains the following components:

1 - 3-1/2" Vacuum Reducer PN 4091910
1 - 4 Second Vacuum Delay Valve PN 4173433
2 - 1/8" to 3/16" Hose Reducer PN 3870264
1 - Hose Routing Label PN 4179823

Must be ordered separately:

1 - Authorized Modification Label PN 4275086

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Installation

1. Check and adjust basic timing to VECI label specification using the respective model year service manual procedure.

2. Cut vacuum supply hose to ESA/EFC computer approximately 6" from vacuum transducer end.

3. Install 3-1/2" vacuum reducer in vacuum hose with nipple on foam filter side of reducer in hose-to-computer vacuum transducer Figure 1).

4. Cut and remove a 3" section of the white strip EGR valve vacuum hose where it runs along the front of the intake manifold.

5. Cut two 1-1/2" pieces of 3/16" Vacuum Hose, PN 4105167 (serviced in bulk stock 50' rolls), and insert one Hose Reducer, PN 3870264, in each hose (Figure 2).

6. Install 1-1/2" hoses with reducers on Vacuum Delay Valve, PN 4173433 (Figure 2) and install in EGR valve hose cut in Step 4 with end marked "Vac" to EGR amplifier.

7. Type the following information on the Authorized Modification Label PN 4275086 (Figure 3).

8. Install label next to or near the VECI label.

9. On 1983 California vehicles only, clean the existing hose routing label surface and apply Hose Routing Label, PN 4179823, over the existing label (label installation is optional on 1983 Federal vehicles).
