This bulletin updates Technical Service Bulletin #14-30-82 which should be retained in your files. A note has been added to Step 6 on page 2, of the service procedure, providing instructions to check and, if necessary, correct for a warped carburetor flange condition.
A new aluminum carburetor spacer will be incorporated into production for the 1983 model year. This aluminum spacer may be used on all subject model engine applications in place of the rubber isolator. The following installation procedures must be used to install the aluminum spacer in place of the rubber type.

To install the replacement aluminum spacer, follow the simple bolt-on procedure outlined below:

IMPORTANT: SOME 1978 AND 1979 SUBJECT MODEL VEHICLES (WITH 1.7 ENGINE ONLY) MAY BE EQUIPPED WITH A CARUBRETOR SERVICE PACKAGE, INSTALLED PER TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN #14-12-79. THIS PACKAGE INCLUDES A CARBURETOR INSULATOR PN 4105153 THAT MOVES THE PCV HOSE
FROM THE CARBURETOR TO THE VACUUM NIPPLE OF THE INSULATOR. IF THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THIS PACKAGE, INSULATOR PN 4105163, WHICH MUST BE ORDERED SEPARATELY, SHOULD BE USED IN PLACE OF PN 4179302.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Remove carburetor from engine.
2. Remove the old rubber isolator from the intake manifold. Also remove the old insulator and discard. The plastic insulator must not be reused.
3. Scrape gasket surface of the intake manifold clean. Be careful not to gouge the aluminum with scraper.
4. Next, install the new aluminum spacer using either the Insulator, PN 4179302, supplied in kit or, if vehicle has a service package installed per Technical Service Bulletin #14-12-79, use insulator with PCV Nipple, PN 4105163, which must be ordered separately. Torque mounting bolts to 200 inch pounds.
5. Install throttle cable bracket to aluminum spacer using the two supplied screws. Torque to 105 inch pounds.
6. Reinstall carburetor on aluminum spacer using the supplied Flange Gasket, PN 4095975, and torque nuts to 145 inch pounds.
*NOTE: USING A STRAIGHT EDGE, CHECK CARBURETOR FLANGE FOR WARPING. IF FLANGE IS WARPED IT IS PERMISSIBLE TO USE A MAXIMUM OF TWO FLANGE GASKETS, PN 4095975. ADDITIONAL FLANGE GASKETS, PN 4095975, ARE AVAILABLE FROM PARTS SUPPLY.
7. Start engine and allow to come to operating temperature. Check idle speed, A/C idle speed, and fast idle speed. Adjust to service manual specifications if necessary.
