A/T - 404 Noisey after Reinstallation

SUBJECT: CHRYSLER 404

COMPLAINT:
A whining, grinding, tinny noise, after the unit has been out of the car, and reinstalled.

CAUSE:
Rear Cover has been dented, either on the output shaft dimple, or the transfer shaft dimple. This causes the gear to contact cover, hence a noise when reinstalled in the vehicle.




CURE:
When going back up into the car with the cover, be very careful not to bend those two dimples, or the gear will grind on that plate -- and it will sound as if the unit is about to fall apart.
