SYMPTOM/CONDITION

On subject model vehicles the deck lid may not open fully or stay open fully unless given assist. This may be due to the additional weight of the luggage rack.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Be sure that the deck lid torsion bars are positioned in the bottom holes (#3 position Figure 1) in the torsion bar supports.

NOTE: THESE TORSION BARS ARE PRE-LOADED. SERVICE SHOULD ONLY BE DONE BY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL.

2. Remove the cable restraint from right side deck lid hinge. Support the deck lid in the fully open position.

3. Using a long screwdriver positioned under the left torsion bar as shown in Figure 2, carefully push down to open a space between the hinge and the torsion bar.

NOTE: DO NOT PUSH THE END OF THE TORSION BAR OUT OF THE HINGE OR LET THE TORSION BAR SLIP OFF THE END OF THE SCREWDRIVER.

4. Insert a Nylon Spacer, PN 4296762, in the space between the left side hinge and torsion bar as shown in Figure 2.

5. Repeat operation on right side.
6. Remove support and install the cable restraint. Operate deck lid several times to verify proper operation.
