Subject: Emissions Recall #427 -- Choke and Secondary Air Adjustment

Models: 1985 Plymouth & Dodge Colt With 1.5L Federal Engine -- California Engines Are Not Affected


The listed model cars may emit carbon monoxide in excess of the Federal Emissions Standards. To ensure compliance to the standards, a carburetor choke adjustment shim must be added, the sub-EGR valve must be cleaned and readjusted and the secondary air system must be modified to provide full-time secondary air.

Details of this service action are explained in the following sections. As an additional service aid, a videotape has been made to demonstrate the service procedure. This feature is included in the August, 1988 M.T.S.C. program.
