Vehicle List, Parts & Owner Information
The listed vehicles previously serviced for recall # 427 must be inspected to ensure that the service was performed as instructed. If any steps were not completed properly, they must be corrected at this time. In addition, the sub-EGR valve must be adjusted.
This action is required as a result of an audit conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It was found that in some cases the prior recall service was not correctly performed.
Important: The EPA may again audit vehicles serviced for this inspection/correction program. It is imperative to ensure that each step is performed as instructed. Failure to do so will be considered by the EPA to be a violation, subjecting affected dealers to possible civil penalties by the agency.
A copy of a special T.R. Cunningham letter addressing the importance of properly performing the recall is enclosed. It was originally sent to all Dodge and Chrysler-Plymouth dealers in May, 1989.
Details of this service action are explained in the following sections.
Note: As an additional service aid, refer to the videotape demonstrating the original Recall # 427 service procedure, included in the August, 1988 Master Tech program.
Vehicle List
Each dealer to whom involved vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same location) will receive a vehicle list with this letter arranged in Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. Owners known to Chrysler are also listed. The lists are for dealer reference in arranging for service of involved vehicles.
Each Dodge or Chrysler-Plymouth dealer without a Vehicle List will receive an information copy of this lefter by Compak Mail for use in performing the service on involved vehicles upon request.
Parts
No parts will be distributed for this recall service inspection/correction program. The required parts should already have been installed during the previous service for Recall # 427.
If any components are missing from the original service, order Recall Parts Package PN C3940313 without charge from your Parts Depot.
Owner Notification and Service Scheduling
All involved vehicle owners known to Chrysler are being notified of the service requirement by first class mail. They are requested to schedule appointments for the service with their dealers at the earliest possible date. A copy of the owner notification letter is attached.
Enclosed with each owner notification is an Owner Recall Notification Form. The involved vehicle and recall are identified on the form for owner or dealer reference as needed.
