This bulletin supersedes Technical Service Bulletin 21-03-86, which should be removed from your files. This bulletin has been expanded to include 1984 and 1986 Colt Vista, as well as 1986 Colt vehicles.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Transmission does not go into 5th gear and/or gear clash when shifting into 5th gear.

DIAGNOSIS

Road test the vehicle. Shift repeatedly from 4th to 5th gear and 5th to 4th gear. Check for gear clash or jump out when shifting into 5th gear. If any of the conditions are observed, the cause could be due to water leaking into the transmission select switch.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

It will be necessary to replace the gear select switch to correct this condition.

1. Remove select switch from transmission.

2. Install new select switch, PN MD726114 or MD727333, from above chart, using two longer retaining bolts, PN MF140208.

3. Road test the vehicle and check for proper transmission shifting in all gears.
